The combination of movement, fresh air, joining with others, and reaching out beyond our own social sphere is one of the main benefits of participating in the numerous walks, runs, and fitness fund-raising events offered in The Bay Area.
This weekend, on March 7, The United Nations Development Fund for Women - UNIFEM, is sponsoring a local walk for their cause. The Trust Fund's primary goal is to support innovative projects aimed specifically at preventing and eliminating gender-based violence.
Since its inception in 1997, the Trust Fund has awarded over $44 million to 291 projects in over 120 countries. However, UNIFEM receives 20 times more requests for funding than it is able to provide.
They're inviting the commmunity to join in a walk at Crissy Field. The only requirement is that each participant contribute a minimum of $10 (current UNIFEM/USNC member) or $20 (non-member) to support the Trust Fund.
If you are unable to walk, please consider making a donation. Donations to support the Trust Fund are 100% tax-deductible.
Join UNIFEM on International Women's Day to walk to end violence against women. Walk to support the Trust Fund, to raise the profile of the issue of violence against women, to highlight effective strategies, and to urge that resources be invested to reduce gender-based violence. Walk to ensure that women around the world are safe and free.
