On Saturday, April 26, 2014, The Walk to Defeat ALS will be at the Symphony Park at SouthPark Mall in Charlotte, North Carolina.

More than just a few-mile trek, the Walk to Defeat ALS® is an opportunity to bring hope to people living with ALS, to raise money for a cure, and to come together for something you care about. The Walk to Defeat ALS® is The ALS Association’s biggest annual event, which raises funds that allow our local chapters to sustain care services and support research for much of the next year.

More details may also be found on the site for the Charlotte Observer . The ALSA site explains that Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis is a neurodegenerative disease that will affect the nerve cells in the spinal cord and the brain. Those suffering with ALS will eventually be paralyzed.

There is no known cure for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis at this time. However, according to information on this site, there is one medication that helps slow the progression of ALS and other drugs are part of clinical trials.
