Indie rockers Walk the Moon are releasing new music on their upcoming “Tightrope EP.” In advance of the release, the band started streaming tracks from the EP on Friday, including an original number and a live Talking Heads cover.
The “Tightrope EP” follows Walk the Moon's self-titled debut album, released last summer. “We were getting kind of itchy to release new material. A lot of our audience members have been with us for awhile; they've heard a lot of the same stuff for a long time,” frontman Nicholas Petricca told Billboard about EP. It will drop before the beginning of Walk the Moon's nearly soldout tour.
Along with current single “Tightrope,” the EP will feature four new songs, including “Tete-A-Tete” (French for head-to-head). Walk the Moon started played “Tete” last year during live shows and now the song will be mastered for released on 5-track EP. The band rocks out over the song's mad scientist lab-sounding production. Petricca details a dysfunctional relationship, singing, “Oh, love is just irrational.”
Of the 5 songs on the EP, one is a live cover of Talking Heads' “Burning Down the House.” Talking to Billboard, Petricca cited Talking Heads as one of Walk the Moon's biggest inspirations, so it made since to include a raw rendition of “Burning” on the EP.
“Their stuff is just dripping with personality. And there's a human factor, beautiful imperfections. We've messed around with a few different Talking Heads covers over the years. This is one that stuck,” Petricca said about the inclusion of “Burning Down the House.”
Walk the Moon plans to hit the studio in spring for work on their second full-length studio album. The group's self-titled debut record was released last June. Their "Tightrope EP" will be released on Tuesday, Jan. 22.
