Walk of Angels 5K Walk/Run to Hold Fourth Annual Event

In honor of three beautiful young girls lost only two years apart in fatal car accidents, the Walk of Angels 5K Walk/Run is held annually to benefit the local “Driving Angels” course for teens, as well as a soccer scholarship program for local teen girls. This will be the fourth year for this event, and so far it has been very successful for the community. With Miranda Phelps and Lauren Dietz lost in the first car accident in June 2007, and Jessica Phillips to follow in May 2009, their family and friends along with their teammates of the Corpus Christi Blaze soccer team do everything they can to try and prevent anyone else from following in this sort of devastation by donating to the “Driving Angels” each year from the Walk of Angels race since its start in 2011. So far they have been able to give a total of $12,500 to the local class to help teen drivers improve their safety.

Another benefit of the Walk of Angels is their goal to help local female soccer players with scholarships for school in spite of hardships that are out of their control. So far in the past three years, resulting from the race benefits, they have been able to grant six full scholarships to local young athletes looking to move up and improve both academically and athletically. These young ladies must be nominated to receive the scholarships that are being offered, and more information is available on the website at or you are able to email

The race will take place July 27 at 4389 Spring Grove Ave., with Check-In and Race Day Registration to begin at 7:15am. Opening Ceremonies will start at 8:30 followed immediately by a staggered race start. Pre-registration is required by July 20 in order to be guaranteed a race t-shirt, and to get the discounted fee of $20. Race Day Registration will be $25. There are more details available on the website, including some information about the course, race history and the Facebook page with some more pictures and details. These appear to be some wonderful local benefits to support, so if you are looking for a race on July 27th, take a look!
