Brothers and Sisters in Christ need to love one another. However, what does this mean?
H. Norman Wright states in his book “How to get Along with Almost Anyone”; “I still believe that the three most vital qualities for getting along with people are genuineness, non-possessive love, and empathy.” A look at these three qualities will help you better understand yourself, and will help with getting along with almost anyone.
Genuineness is getting along with people without putting on a mask or a façade. You show them who you really are and not try and be fake about anything. This will show people that you care enough about them to be real with them. Non-possessive love means that you are looking out for the person’s best interest at heart. It shows that you actually care for them as a person, despite any differences that you may have. Empathy is feeling with someone, like the expression states to “walk a mile in another man’s shoes.” It isn’t sympathy which means to over-involve you with emotions, and it definitely isn’t apathy which means to not care at all. Empathy means you see the situation as the other person sees it as it were happening to you.
By reviewing and truly understanding those three qualities, you will better understand yourself and this will help you understand others as well. Thus, you will be able to get along with almost anyone.
Galatians 6:3 states; “For if anyone thinks he is something when he is nothing, he deceives himself.” We need to support one another. We need to love one another as Jesus loved us. We are all servant to Christ. We need to remember this when engaging with one another.
