Do you think you are a good person? There is a difference between being good, and being godly. This is exceptionally hard for today’s teenagers. There are so many things that can distract a teenager from their walk with Christ. The teenage years are when most begin to date. However in today’s world, it is rare that you find a high school couple ending up in marriage. This also brings up the topic of teenage sex. 2nd Timothy 3:16 states that “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness…” For all of life’s big questions, we can turn to the Bible. So what does the Bible say about teenagers, dating, and sex? 1st Corinthians 13:4-7 states that “Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.” Teenagers are quick to say that they are “in love. Remember God’s Word in 1st Corinthians. “Love does not parade itself.” You may think you are in love, but remember, as a teenager, your body is constantly changing. What you may be feeling is not love, but an enjoyment of the attention you are receiving.
All of this not only covers dating, but sex as well. God’s Word states in 1st Corinthians 7:2 that “Nevertheless, because of sexual immorality, let each man have his own wife, and let each woman have her own husband.” Sex before marriage is immoral. Some may say that they are “waiting for the right person”. If you find that right person, wait until marriage. If they truly are the “right person”, they will want to wait as well.
The Christian teen needs to remember that their walk with Christ is still top priority. Remember it is Him that matters most.
