Marriage has changed from being a sacred promise between God and a man and woman, to homosexual marriages, civil unions, and multiple partners. Society took the “religion” out of marriage, which in essence, takes the marriage out of marriage as God is to be the center of a marriage. So what does the Bible say about marriage?

Marriage has been, and always should be, based in Christ. Ephesians 5:25-30 states; “Husbands, love your wives just as Christ loved the church and gave himself for her to sanctify her by cleansing her with the washing of the water by the word, so that he may present the church to himself as glorious – not having a stain or wrinkle, or any such blemish, but holy and blameless. In the same way husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. For no one has ever hated his own body but he feeds it and takes care of it, just as Christ also does the church, for we are members of his body.”

Marriage began when Adam was given Eve by God. Family began when they were given children. Thus God is the center of marriage and family. This is what makes a marriage and what makes it work; God as the center. When you have God as the center of your marriage, you have Him as the center of your family. Thus, your children are raised in Christ with Him as the center. This is the Biblical view of marriage and family; God is the center.

Genesis 2:22-23 tells us, “Then the Lord God made a woman from the part he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man. Then the man said, “This one at last is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; this one will be called ‘woman,’ for she was taken out of man.” God gave Adam the gift of Eve; thus creating marriage and family. Why should we let society change that?
