A new app, ResQwalk aims to help local animal rescues simply by connecting individuals who want to help through walking with corporate sponsors who donate to a weekly pool. The more you walk, the more money you earn to donate to the local rescue of your choice. Getting outside and doing something healthy for yourself, mentally and physically stimulating for your dog and helping the local animal rescue of your choice: seems like a no-brainer. Check out the Youtube video that explains it in visually appealing detail.
According to their Indiegogo campaign, the app was:
Created by the team at ResQthreads, ResQwalk is an iOS mobile app that enables animal lovers to raise money for animal rescues and shelters in the United States and Canada every time they go for a walk. Each week ResQwalk announces a donation pool (e.g. $2,500) and in order for a rescue to receive donations from the pool, its supporters simply need to check-in to the app when they go for a walk (with a dog, alone, or with a friend). Each walker's distance is recorded and added to the rescue's weekly sum. At the end of the week donations are paid out to the rescues proportionally to the total distance walked.
Other cool features of the app include: prizes at the end of each walk, a news section with pet related content, a shop section with product deals and offers, and profile pages for users and rescues to track both miles walked and dollars raised.
Presently only available for iPhone users, the Android version is set to be released in September 2014. Current rescue partners are listed on their website. Don't see your favorite rescue? Have them apply today!
