This Thursday, October 18, marks the 6th annual Walk A Mile In Her Shoes, benefiting the YWCA of San Diego County's Becky's House Domestic Violence Program. Becky's House provides emergency shelter, an emergency 24-hour hotline and transitional housing for victims of domestic violence in our community.
Since 2008, the event has raised funds to increase awareness of the prevalence of domestic violence and its impact on the San Diego community. Instead of nice and comfy running shoes, men (and women and children) don a pair of pumps and walk a mile through the streets of downtown San Diego. According to the YWCA, it's a fun way for men to "literally walk one mile in women's high-heeled shoes as a powerful symbol of their commitment to putting an end to domestic violence."
The walk begins at 6:00pm. Participants will have their pick of pumps available in various styles and sizes. After the walk, celebrate with food and drink at the San Diego Wine & Culinary Center.
