Mayor Karl Dean announced on May 13 that he is once again challenging Nashvillians to join him in walking 100 miles over three months this summer. Launched in 2011, the Walk 100 Miles challenge is designed to encourage Nashville residents to join in a community-wide effort to improve their overall health. The last walk with the Mayor was the finale of the 2012 challenge at Centennial Park.

This will be the third time Mayor Dean has hosted the walk but this time he is hoping to initiate a walking movement called Walk 100 Miles with Nashville. All Nashville residents are invited to create or join a walking group to motivate each other to complete the 100-mile goal during the summer of 2014.

How to Join the Walk

  • Go to www.Walk100Miles.com to register (be sure to select "I am here for the Mayor's Walk 100 Miles challenge" on the registration page)
  • Log the miles you walk or run between now and the end of August
  • Everyone who logs 100 miles will get a free t-shirt that reads "I walked 100 miles with Nashville!"

Walk with the Mayor

As part of Walk 100 Miles with Nashville, Mayor Dean will again hold regular group walks across Nashville. The first community walk will take place on Sat., May 31 at 9 a.m. at the Harpeth River Greenway (exact starting location TBA). This will be a 5-mile walk with a 2.5-mile option for beginners. View all of the Mayor's upcoming walks on the Walk 100 Community Calendar.

Benefits of Walking

Walking is the most underrated form of exercise and can positively effect mood, memory, overall health and beauty.
