Wake Forest University Celebrates Life of Martin Luther King, Jr. (Photos)

Wake Forest University's Department of Multicultural Affairs will sponsor several events commemorating the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. over the holiday weekend. This year's theme is “On Common Ground: Remembering the Past to Shape the Future”. The weekend begins on Saturday, January 19th with the 15th Annual MLK Invitation Basketball Tournament which features intramural teams from a number of North Carolina universities. It takes place in Reynolds Gymnasium on the campus of Wake Forest at 12:00pm and is free and open to the public. On Sunday the 8th annual GospelFest featuring VaShawn Mitchell and the WFU Gospel Choir will be held at 3:00pm in Brendle Recital Hall. The concert is free with a valid WFU student ID and $5 for the public. Closing out the weekend is the 13th Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration on Tuesday, January 22nd. It features keynote speaker Harry Belafonte and takes place at 7:00pm in K.R. Williams Auditorium on the campus of Winston-Salem State University.
