In the first of our ‘Best of’ series, we present to you our choice for Best Restaurant in Southwest Miami: Wajiro’s Restaurant.
For everything from its sizeable portions, to its friendly staff, to its talented chef, to the warm and sociable De La Torre family who owns and runs the place, Wajiro’s has become a popular local eatery for those who enjoy Latin food and a lively atmosphere.
Recently purchased by the De La Torre family, Wajiro’s has been elevated by Otto and his wife Sonia. Assisted by their two eldest children, sons David and Jonathan, the couple has truly transformed this restaurant into a local favorite.
Chef Jose Angel Perez has completely revamped the menu and presents artistic creations in addition to classic Cuban dishes, such as Ropa Vieja (shredded beef in creole sauce, Masas de Cerdo (fried pork chunks), and Cazuela de Mariscos (creole-style seafood stew).
Jonathan, who looks after administration and operations, and David, who supervises vendors and works closely with Chef Perez, has a true passion for the family business. As do Otto and Sonia’s youngest children, their two daughters Lissette and Lauren, who are being raised into this family affair.
The friendly staff is welcoming and attentive, making sure that everyone is happy and satisfied. On weekdays expect a more laid back atmosphere, with the excitement picking up on the weekend with live music and karaoke.
For everything from the tasty appetizers, to generous and exquisitely prepared entrées, to sublime desserts, Wajiro’s Restaurant is the best place to eat in Southwest Miami. Enjoy!
