The St. Louis pastor who caused a controversy by stiffing a server on a gratuity, called the Applebee’s where the incident happened to complain to the manager that a copy of the receipt was posted online, SFGate.com reported on Thursday, Jan. 31.
The server who was stiffed on the gratuity showed the receipt to another waitress, Chelsea Welch, who took a photo of the receipt and posted the photo on Reddit.com, which caused nationwide outrage and attempts to identify the pastor who scribbled out the tip amount replacing it with a zero and wrote, “I give God 10% why do you get 18?”
After the pastor, identified as Alois Bell, who disagreed with the automatic 18 percent gratuity charge added for parties over eight people, called to complain to the manager at the Applebee’s location in St. Louis. Chelsea Welch told The Consumerist she was fired from her job after Bell lodged the complaint.
