Waiting makes you crazy: Eight things to do while waiting for your kids

Waiting is part of parenting. Think about all the down time you have while waiting for your kids at sports practices, dance class, and movie theatre pickups. You can use this time to catch up with friends, work on a hobby, read, or just relax.

Sports practices:

Most practices last an hour or more and many coaches prefer the parents remain present. To pass the time:

  • Bring a good book to read. How often do you get a quiet hour to enjoy a good book?
  • If you crochet or embroider, you can work uninterrupted, especially on a challenging pattern this time.
  • Plan your weekly or monthly menus
  • Review your calendar; make sure all practices, appointments, and events are noted.

Dance classes:

  • If the studio has Wi-Fi, use the time to shop on-line or check weekly ads.
  • Watch the dancers and work on some moves of your own for your exercise routine.

Other waiting periods:

Relax and listen to music you enjoy. Parents of teens will appreciate the time to listen to ‘their’ music.
