Waiting for spring with a delicious Cabernet Sauvignon

March is always a little frustrating—it’s a weather purgatory where all good weather must do
penance before spring can arrive, but winter just won’t release its grip. We’re teased with warm
interludes between snowy, cold spells.

It’s at these times that a nice, juicy Cabernet can offer some seasonal solace as we wait for spring
to finally settle in. We decided to give Grayson Cellars California Cabernet Sauvignon a try.

Grayson Cellars is a small family-owned winery with decades of Napa wine making experience.
They believe that experience and having one of the most experienced winemakers in the Napa Valley, Larry Levin, on their team allow them to create a better wine at a better price point—and they’ve succeeded.

To start, Grayson Cellars Cabernet features lots of wonderful, rich and juicy fruit flavors packaged within a delicious, dry and smooth texture.

Dark ruby-colored Grayson Cabernet Sauvignon has a rich nose full of blackberry, raspberries, black licorice and hints of black pepper.

When it comes to flavor, there are notes of red cherry, raspberry, ripe plum, spicy black licorice,
cola and darkly caramelized sugar, black pepper and toasty oak. This intense easy-drinking
wine provides lots of secondary black currant and herb flavorings intermixed with a hint
of smoke. You get all the great Cabernet flavor without the youthful Cabernet “bite”
because it is not powered by aggressive tannins common in many California Cabernets.

One thing you can say, it’s full of fruit, with a velvety-textured, lush, round mouth feel and a soft, lingering finish. Simply put, Grayson Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon tastes like a Napa Cabernet in the $25-$40 range—and it has been a consistent winner for years. This is one crowd-pleasing Cabernet.

So, while you're waiting for warmer weather, give this wine a try. There are few family-owned wines from California at this price point available, and you'll be glad you gave it a try.

The good news is that it’s available at at Circus Wines/Spirits Unlimited, 835 State Highway 35, Middletown, NJ 07748.
