Don't let April's dreary grey and rainy days get you down - take part in a number of upcoming events, including the 15th annual Boston Bakes for Breast Cancer, May 11-15 at Legal Sea Foods restaurants in Copley Place, Park Square, Prudential Center and Chestnut Hill among many other establishments across the area. It benefits Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Bakes for Breast Cancer, Inc., and Legal is donating proceeds from its Boston Cream Pie to the cause.
The month kick's off with Cinco de Mayo, and Boston's Rosa Mexicano is celebrating 30 years of offering traditional Mexican dishes this year. Join in for five days of feasting - from May 1-4 enjoy the prix fixe and a la carte menus with Mexican beers, and on May 5, go all out with both menus, beers and special cocktail offerings while listening to DJ/Mariachi entertainment.
Next comes Mother's Day, and at the Mandarin Oriental in Boston's Back Bay offers a three tiered spa package menu for the entire month, and a special Mother's Day dinner ($98) from noon to 9 p.m. in Asana. Diners will celebrate moms and feast on their choice of appetizers such as: Homemade Salmon Gravlax served with crème fraîche, capers and dill blini, English Pea Risotto served with Taleggio cheese and morel mushrooms or Parmesan Brodo served with ricotta, spring beans and basil. Entrées and a selection of sides will be served family style to share; enjoy Brandt Beef served with a horseradish crème fraîche, Amish Chicken served with lemon and rosemary or Lemon Sole “Meuniere” served with brown butter, capers and parsley. Finish with a choice of a sweet confection including Dark Chocolate St. Honoré Tart served with chocolate financier, caramel cremuex and chocolate Chantilly or Red Berry Rhubarb Sabayon served with seasonal berries, Mandarin frangipane and kaffir lime ice cream.
For mothers who want a more casual celebration, head to Chinatown's Shojo on Tyler St., offering its first ever Mother's Day meal (12:30- 7 p.m.) with complimentary flower and dessert, or go for a cozy neighborhood gastro-pub experience at The Common Ground in Allston where an la carte menu similar to brunch but will special additions, will be served.
