Bob Gannon, who's previously provided us with pictures of various spots on Paul McCartney's summer tour of the U.S., is in Hamburg for the opening concert on McCartney's winter European tour.
He has sent us these great pictures of the Beatles spots in Hamburg in advance of the first McCartney show on Wednesday. They're in the slideshow at the bottom of the page. (Thanks, Bob!)
More photos of Beatles sites in Hamburg are in the slideshow at the bottom of the page.)
The young, then raw-sounding Beatles performed in Hamburg clubs early in their career before becoming a world phenemenon.

Great job, Bobbo!!! Thanks for posting these, Steve.
My friend Tina lives in Hamburg, and on my first visit to see her in 1988, we went to the Reperbaun. When we went to where The Star Club was it was then a theatre who's name translated in English to Spot Theatre. It was funny on the Grosse Freiheit, because I wanted a photo on the famous lit up street we've seen in Beatle books, and there was a guy coming out of one of 'those' places on the street and when he saw someone taking a photo, he ducked back into the place. We went back at night so I could take the lights on photo, but my friend told me to just open the car door take the photo and close the door again so we could go. At night it was "different" than during the day. We went to the Harbor also & I thought of The B's eating 'butties' there. I used the book The Beatles London which also had a section on Hamburg places. Good book for that use. After that with repeat visits, I came to feel like very comfortable in Hamburg & I had other familiar places I liked to visit in the city.
On one visit I got to meet Astrid at a photo exhibit she happened to be having at a gallery there.
Oh and we went to Paul's 1989 Hamburg concert, which was all general standing on the floor at the Sportshalle (sports hall) so we could maneuver close to the stage.
OK I'm done.
Thanks Bob (and Steve). Love the pictures and looking forward to your reports. I am guessing you will follow him right back to England too?
Thanks for your mini report too Barb P.
