On Tuesday, Bruce Feldman tweeted that Texas Tech Defensive Coordinator Chad Glasgow had been fired. Texas Tech has now said that is false and that Chad Glasgow is still employed at Texas Tech. They also say that Coach Glasgow will not be fired. The local FOX affiliate has even come out talking about the evils of social media and how the truth was a casualty of all the speculation about the future of Coach Glasgow.
After it was reported by Bruce Feldman that Coach Glasgow had been fired, Texas Tech did lose a valued recruit to Oklahoma. The Texas Tech fans that frequent the fan message boards like Raiderpower.com went into full meltdown mode. The Lubbock sports stations had in-depth discussions with “local insiders” about Coach Glasgow’s status.
Here is what is actually known: Texas Tech denies that Coach Glasgow has left the program. Before anyone starts talking about how evil Bruce Feldman is by spreading this horrible rumor, consider one thing. The only people saying that Coach Glasgow is still at Tech are the same people that once told everyone that Mike Leach locked Adam James in an electrical closet. Why should the public believe anything they say?
What Texas Tech needs to do is produce Chad Glascow. If Coach Glasgow is in fact still an employee of Texas Tech, then he should be able to call a radio or television station. There shouldn’t be a problem with him giving an interview to a local reporter or even just releasing a signed statement. If Coach Glasgow is still working for Texas Tech, then produce him.
Everyone in Lubbock should already be well aware that just because Texas Tech says something is true, does not make it so. Maybe instead of FOX just taking Texas Tech’s word for it and wagging its finger at the public, they could actually investigate the story. They are the media, which is part of their job in a democracy. The media taking Texas Tech’s word for the Coach Glasgow still being employed is like the media taking Richard Nixon at his word during the Watergate scandal.
The central question is who do you believe more? Do you believe Texas Tech which has been less than honest with the public or do you believe Bruce Feldman who actually lost his job for telling the truth? It really is not that hard of a choice.
