An unnamed Ft. Wainwright Soldier remains in a Fairbanks jail, without charges, in connection with the death of a child at the family home on post.

Thursday, April 3, an incident occurred that resulted in the death of the dependent child and an unspecified injury to the Soldier.

The Soldier was treated at Fairbanks Memorial Hospital and subsequently taken into custody by military law enforcement. Incarceration is at Fairbanks Correctional Center.

Officials say releasing any more information regarding the manner of death, or if the death was an accident, suicide or homicide would “jeopardize the investigation.” They have also remained silent on gender and name of the child.

The Army has no plans to identify the Soldier unless or until criminal charges are filed.

They further stated they can keep the Soldier incarcerated indefinitely for his/her own safety and/or the safety and well-being of the community at large.

The incident remains under investigation by the Army's CID.

Details will be released as soon as they become available.
