Controversial Dancehall entertainer, Adidja “Vybz Kartel” Palmer’s relationship with Guyana & its fan base seems irrevocably damaged following the announcement that all music from “Di Teacha” has been banned from the country’s airwaves.
Kartel has had his share of issues with Guyanese officials; pulling out of two shows in the South American nation due to alleged death threats he claimed people in Guyana made against him. Now, Guyanese radio stations are taking an unprecedented stance against the self-proclaimed, “Dancehall Hero” by deciding to no longer play Kartel’s music as a result of the obscene & hardcore lyrics his songs entail.
The Guyana National Broadcasting Association announced their decision on Wednesday; suggesting the ban was indefinite. Martin Goolsarran, a spokesman for the state-owned radio outlet, National Communications Network confirmed that Kartel’s music brings “nothing positive” to the entertainment industry. In addition to the ban issued against the “Worl’ Boss,” Goolsarran hinted that the Association is reviewing the lyrics of other musicians & could also take them off the airwaves, though he declined to name which artistes were being investigated.
The announcement comes just over a month after Kartel cancelled a scheduled performance at the government-supported, Jam Zone Summer Break event in the Guyanese capital of Georgetown. “Di Teacha,” reportedly walked off a Caribbean Airlines flight shortly before takeoff; allegedly faking sickness & prompting flight attendants to let him leave the plane. Kartel later intimated that there were men in Guyana who wanted to kill or kidnap him.
A scheduled 2009 performance in the South American country was also cancelled due to similar, alleged threats.
