According to the editor's desk and the US Census Bureau in August 2009, about 2.8 million veterans, or 13 percent of the total, reported having a service-connected disability. Having a disabled service member impacts more than the veteran, as many of these families rely solely upon the soldier's income. When the veteran is injurred spouses begin to scramble to find a career choice that can support the family in the way the soldier previously had. Programs that organizations such as Virtual Training Systems (VTS) offers are a life line for both the disabled veteran and these spouses during their time of need.
Virtual Training Systems (VTS) is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization that develops e-learning educational programs for deployment nationwide while being a leader in providing these online job skills training services and job placement assistance FREE to qualified veterans, military family members, individuals with disabilities and their caregivers, and other economically disadvantaged Americans for home-based employment opportunities.
Linda Walsh, Founder and President of VTS states, “Not only is it critical today for companies to “go green” in an effort to reduce our footprint on the earth, but it is our responsibility as a socially conscious society to support our communities and strengthen our economy by hiring Americans as much as possible by homeshoring jobs.”
VTS candidates are recruited through partnerships with military family support groups, American veterans groups, as well as other non-profits, local community organizations and voluntary health organizations like the COPD Foundation.
Linda Walsh states, “It is vital to our program that graduates have a high probability of success. We must define success and show them how to achieve it. If we arm them with what they need to succeed, there is no limit to what they can accomplish!”
