Bennington Vermont was the site of the18th annual Southern Vermont Garlic and Herb Festival this weekend, Saturday, Aug. 31, and Sunday, Sept. 1. This popular event is put on by the Bennington Area Chamber of Commerce. The Vermont & New Hampshire Valley Red Cross Chapter of the American Red Cross was one of the 180 Vendors participating in this years event.
The American Red Cross responds to fires, floods and other emergencies. The Disaster team provides protection against the stress and immediacy of a disaster. They were reminding attendees that disaster assistance is free to anyone who needs it and is made possible by donations.
A donation may be made at any time to the Vermont & New Hampshire Valley Red Cross Regional Office. Donations to the local chapters are used to support local response activities.
The Team was distributing information which included this BASIC EMERGENCY SUPPLY KIT:
At a minimum, you should have the basic supplies listed below:
Water—one gallon per person, per day (3-day supply for evacuation, 2-week supply for home)
Food—non-perishable, easy-to-prepare items (3-day supply for evacuation, 2-week supply for home)
Battery-powered or hand-crank radio (NOAA Weather Radio, if possible)
First aid kit – Anatomy of a First Aid Kit
Medications (7-day supply) and medical items
Sanitation and personal hygiene items
Copies of personal documents (medication list and pertinent medical information, proof of address, deed/lease to home, passports, birth certificates, insurance policies)
Cell phone with chargers
Family and emergency contact information
