VSA Start with the Arts Festival

VSA, the international organization on arts and disability, invites you to the VSA Start with the Arts Festival – engaging children of all ages and abilities in hands-on art experiences and performances! Showcasing the power of imagination and the importance of the arts in education, the annual VSA Start with the Arts Festival engages children in hands-on arts experiences, provides parents and teachers with resources for inclusive arts education activities, and features performances throughout the D.C. metro area as well as in-school workshops with the VSA Teaching Artist Fellows in partnership with the Kennedy Center’s Community Partnerships Initiative. 

May 19 – 21, 10:15 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. (11:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. on Saturday) Smithsonian Institution’s Discovery Theater

Admission: $3-6

Performances include ILL-Abilities, The Science of Bubbles with Josh Routh of Circus Kaput, and The Mystery of the Well: A Bollywood Musical from ArtStream.

Performances by ILL-Abilities; Jadoo with Circus Kaput's Josh Routh; Company d, a nationally recognized dance company featuring young adults with Down syndrome; and Michael "Blindcat" McIntire's eclectic blend of traditional and original bluegrass. Hands-on art activities include building percussion instruments, learning the art of improvisation, creating mixed media "artist trading cards," and more!
