Rush Limbaugh tackled the issue of gun control on Thursday, commenting on the reaction of liberal journalists to conservatives’ belief that President Obama will violate 2nd Amendment rights of Americans. CNN reporters say conservatives are wrong to believe Obama will walk all over the 2nd Amendment, that he doesn’t want to take away guns, just take away very dangerous guns. The NRA protested that there are no dangerous guns, only dangerous people, and it is they on whom the law should concentrate and not law abiding citizens.
Limbaugh chastises CNN reporters for limited thought
Sean Hannity pointed out that President Obama has already trodden all over laws on immigration and oil drilling, even installing a government official against Congressional approval while they were in session, and that Obama has readily proven track record of doing the opposite of what he says he will do.
Mr. Limbaugh said,
“We know that Biden and Obama are Democrats. We know that they are avowed leftists. We know, as a result of that, that they resent the Second Amendment. We know that if they could, they would do away with the Second Amendment. This is not supposition. It's not guesswork. We have listened to them over the course of many years. Now, in recent days or months they have not said specifically, "We want to get rid of the Second Amendment." They used to say that and they would say it a number of varied ways. The Second Amendment's outlived its usefulness. The Founding Fathers never intended the Second Amendment to encompass what it encompasses.”
In the past, liberal media personalities like Rachel Maddow of MSNBC have said the Founding Fathers could not have envisioned the modern world with tanks, fighter jets, and nuclear bombs. She contends that if the 2nd Amendment was meant to keep the citizens armed against the federal government then it is saying they should have tanks and jets and nuclear bombs. The federal government does have restrictions on citizens owning less than anything more than what are classified by the military as “light weapons.” The civilian versions of military rifles like the M-16 are not able to fire automatically and even hand grenades are not sold to the general public.
Gun advocates say that the Assault Rifle Ban put into place by Clinton was ineffective and insignificant in stopping gun crimes of any sort, including those like Columbine and Newtown. Over the past month, gun sales have skyrocketed as people prepare for another potential government ban on weapons and material. Rush believes President Obama would readily rule by Executive Order in violation of the Constitution as he has done repeatedly over the past four years. He referred to the president’s failed “Fast and Furious” operation run by AG Holder as means of ginning up anti-gun sentiment.
