Votran is adding weekday shuttle service to the DeBary SunRail station from the Deltona Plaza at 1200 Deltona Boulevard, starting Monday, May 5. The service however, will be temporary, according to Volusia County Community Information Manager Joanne F. Magley. In a news release, she notes that the additional shuttle service will run until May 16, while initial SunRail service is free. She also notes that SunRail is not operating over the weekends.
Votran Assistant General Manager Liz Suchsland added, “I don’t think we anticipated the number of riders during the first two days [of SunRail service]. Votran is adding this shuttle service as a customer convenience. We will discontinue the shuttles when SunRail starts charging full fares in anticipation ridership will level off.”
Officials say the parking lot at the DeBary SunRail station was overflowing at times on Thursday and Friday as free SunRail service started, and that a number of riders did not realize that SunRail trains run more often during the early morning and late afternoon. Votran says they will have a customer service representative at the DeBary Station during the day next week to assist riders and provide information.
During the free SunRail service through May 16, the free shuttle buses will run every 30 minutes weekdays between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m.
Four bus routes will also take riders to and from the DeBary SunRail station during peak weekday hours, between 4:15 a.m. and 9 a.m., and between 3:15 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. SunRail 30 and 32 will use existing Votran bus stops, and SunRail 31 and 33 will be “…express routes with limited stops.”
SunRail 30 will provide service to Deland, Orange City and DeBary using U.S. 17-92 from the DeLand Intermodal Transportation Facility to the DeBary SunRail station. It will stop at “…established Votran bus stops.”
SunRail 31 will serve DeLand, Orange City and DeBary with limited stops on U.S. Highway 17-92 from the Northgate Shopping Plaza.
SunRail 32 will provide service to Deltona, Orange City and DeBary on U.S. 17-92 and Saxon, Normandy and Deltona Boulevards. It will stop at “…established Votran bus stops.”
SunRail 33 will serve Deltona, Orange City and DeBary on U.S. Highway 17-92 and Saxon, Providence and Howland Boulevards with limited stops from the Dupont Lakes Shopping Center.
