According to a new poll by Rasmussen, a staggering 67% of voters now reject illegal immigration, seeing it as a major, needless strain on the economy in the middle of a severe recession. 68% also oppose sanctuary cities, while 74% say government isn't doing enough to secure our borders.
Additionally, 68% think businesses who hire illegal immigrants should be punished, 69% believe illegal immigrants should be prosecuted and 56% support an enforcement-only approach.
Again, as with most issues in this right-of-center country, the American people overwhelmingly side with conservatives (the ones constantly being smeared as the extremists) and reject the left's absurd pro-amnesty ideas.
Imagine that, Americans still refuse to believe that overcrowding our federal prisons, bankrupting our schools and bottoming out our wages is worth getting cheaper lettuce.

We all know that illegal immigration is killing us, but Obama wants "immigration reform" that will legalize them, and you can be it will be shoved down our throats just like "healthcare reform". Tell Congress NO on amnesty and reform.
What part of ILLEGAL do they not understand. I wonder what they would do if we faithful law abiding Americans purposely broke the law? I know what they would do - jail us. But terrorists (yes I said the word) get Constitutional rights and illegal aliens are supported by our tax dollars. We must stand up and speak out.

I'm curious. Why is it that illegal immigration is the only issue on which you think the free market isn't the end-all be-all? I mean, I would understand the arguments of cultural assimilation against immigration. But the economic argument against immigration also applies to free trade agreements, to the minimum wage, to labor conditions- in other words, once you concede that the "race to the bottom" effect exists in one area of the economy, it's silly to think it stops existing elsewhere.
This is indeed why socialist-populists have long been anti-immigration.
But then, political necessity breeds both strange bedfellows and contradictory belief structures.

Weak straw man fallacy. Being a proponent of the free market in no way implies that one thinks the free market should/can sove EVERYTHING, that government should/can solve EVERYTHING or that it is a contradiction to want the government in charge of ANYTHING.
I also think government, not the free market, should handle our wars. By your logic, this also makes me a hypocrite. Lame.
Besides, unlike virtually EVERYTHING liberals support, my position here is what's consistent with the CONSTITUTION. Of the few things the federal government was ever supposed to do, defending our borders is one of them.
I agree with the late congressman Sonny Bono when he was asked about illegal immigration. He said, "It's ileagal!" I have no problem with people coming here to work as long as they come in the front door, not the back window. Compliance with our laws does not seem too much to ask of a foreign visitor.

Ah. Now that was what I was going for. So you think that one ought to consider the reality of the facts on the ground and whether or not the market is or is capable of doing a good job in a field, and where it's not, it should step in?
It would be foolishness, then, to simply dismiss serious economic problems with simplistic maxims like, "Government is the problem, not the solution" or, "The government is incapable of creating jobs".

The American worker can't compete with a foreign worker who makes $0.35 an hour. Back-stabbing Bill took money from the unions for 8 years all the while telling them he was a friend of the American worker. His lie was Homeric! Ross Perot warned everyone what would happen, but lying Bill and the power abusing liberal main stream media all mocked him and made fun of it. Well the fact is Ross was absolutely right and that "giant sucking sound" is still being heard today; manufacturing jobs are still leaving the United States. The loss of disposable income has dropped in many, many households as a direct result of Slimy Willie's backstabbing of the American Worker.

Open-border "progressives" and Latino "amnesty" proponents like to say that illegal immigrants should not be considered, or treated like, "criminals"---because they simply came here to "make a better life" for themselves and their family...."just like everyone else did." They forget about that old "national sovereignty" concept that says a sovereign nation has the right to determine who enters its borders, and who can remain in its borders AFTER entering. That concept is codifed in our immigration laws. The illegal "migration" of foreign nationals across our sovereign southern over the last 40 years is nothing short of a SLOW INVASION. Throughout history, when hasn't an invasion across a sovereign border taken place because the invaders wanted "to make a better life" for themselves and their offspring....or to destroy the existing culture of that nation?

No jobs? The immigrants did not elect politicians who legislated to regulate and tax business with shackles that would make anyone not want to create jobs. You and your parents and grandparents did that. An abumdance of jobs need an ever-growing work force.
American jobs being shifted to Mexico? Then, why are the Mexicans coming here? It was not immigrants who let politicians tax and regulate businesses until their cost of production here in the USA was so high they could no longer be competitive in a world economy. Paul, this is not about immigrants. Immigrants obeyed our laws and came here legally. They worked to become a part of our country by assimilating and respecting it.
This is about the ILLEGAL ALIENS who ignore our laws and SNEAK into our country to use it. Most have NO DESIRE to assimilate or become citizens. Many even believe that they are ENTITLED to be here and take from us because of the history of some of their ancestors and mythology (Aztlan).
I know this because I am an American of Mexican descent. Believe me when I tell you that the attitude of these people has changed drastically and they do not like us or our country. Please participate in an economic boycott of businesses. Until you negatively affect the bottom line of businesses who reap millions from illegal immigration, you will continue to have this. This is about money, plain and simple. Your dollar has more power than your vote. From 15 Apr-15 May 10, buy nothing but food, medicine and gasoline. Face it, if all of these uneducated and unskilled illegal immigrants (the majority have little more than 3-8 grade education) are legalized, your taxes are going to go up. You know it. They will demand that they be subsidized even more than they are now. How in the heck does our government think anyone with an third or eighth grade education is going to be a net benefit to this country? The only person he will benefit is his employer. The rest of the taxpayers are going to get screwed. And the ones who have children will actually pay nothing in taxes, except sales (big deal) and will get money from the IRS at tax time. This is financial suicide.
