Vote Early, Vote Often: Register in Massachusetts

In case you’ve missed the public service announcements, the voter registration deadline in Massachusetts is coming up fast.  In order to vote in the Presidential primary, voters must be registered by Wednesday, February 15.  Contact your town clerk, go to the RMV, or print the form from the elections division web site in order to register.

The Presidential primary will take place on Tuesday, March 6, so get ready to get out the vote.

While Massachusetts Democrats are likely to vote for President Obama, Republican voters across the state have several choices and should make sure to get out there and vote for their candidate.

In addition to Republicans, Massachusetts independent voters (or the unflattering title “un-enrolled”) may choose either the Democratic or the Republican primary ballots.

If you’re not planning to vote in the Presidential primary, make sure to register to vote no later than August 17, so that you’ll be eligible to vote in September 6th’s state primary election.

Voting is a right and a privilege, so far, New Hampshire has set the bar for highest turn out this primary with 31%.  In the 2008 election, Minnesota led the nation with an amazing 78.1% of register voters casting their ballots; ironically, the President’s home state of Hawaii brought up the low count with only 49% turn out.  The Bay State played a crucial role in founding this country; we should keep up with the leaders in voter turnout.

There is nothing more inherently American than letting our voices be heard, so get out there and say something.
