The long awaited and much delayed VooDoo Zip Line ride is now open at Rio Las Vegas. Originally slated to debut in late summer 2013, the zip line debuted over Memorial Day weekend last month in Las Vegas.
The new zip line launch point is located on the patio of the VooDoo Steakhouse on the 50th floor of Rio's Masquerade Tower. Riders descend from the launch point to the top of the 20-story Ipanema Tower and return facing backwards to the original launch site. The new zip line is unique in that it accommodates two riders at a time ( tandem seating) and attains speeds of 33 m.p.h. during the first-leg descent. Total ride distance is approximately one-third mile and requires about 70 seconds from launch to return. The ride has been marketed through the promise of a spectacular view of the Las Vegas Strip from more than 400 feet above street level.
The new attraction is a collaborative effort involving Rio Las Vegas and Capital Ventures. The talents of Stan Checketts, whom has created more than 200 amusement rides for Disney and Six Flags, were instrumental in the zip line's development and testing.
Operating hours for the line are noon to midnight Monday through Thursday and 10 A.M. to midnight Friday through Sunday. Admission costs are $24.99 until 5:30 P.M. and $37 thereafter until close.
The VooDoo Zip Line is the second zip line ride attraction to open in Vegas within the last two months. The Slotzilla zip line debuted in the Downtown area in April 2014. The High Roller observation wheel attraction at the Caesars Entertainment LINQ project on the Strip debuted on March 31, 2014. These new ride attractions add some zip and roll thrill ride options for Vegas visitors to experience..all for tolerable admission fees.
