Volusia Sheriff’s Office investigating shooting in Deltona Wednesday

The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting that killed a Deltona man Christmas Day. Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Gary Davidson says 69-year old Bruce Fleming was found shot in the chest around 10 Wednesday morning in the Deltona man's backyard on Cadehill Drive. Fleming was transported to Florida Hospital Fish Memorial in Orange City, but was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Wednesday afternoon, the Sheriff’s Office said results of a preliminary investigation indicated that the shooting was accidental, but Davidson says the Sheriff’s Office Major Case Unit will make a final determination after additional investigation and the results of an autopsy are available.

The Sheriff’s Office said initially that investigators were looking into the possibility that Fleming may have been shot accidently by a stray bullet from a neighbor’s shooting range which has a raised berm, and that deputies had identified a man who might have fired the fatal shot in the case.
