“Why walk alone?” said Donna Zeitlin, volunteer for the shelter. “This is a perfect opportunity for a teacher out of school for the summer or a recent retiree looking for a fun activity to fill their time.”

Zeitlin has been an active volunteer for the shelter for many years and is one of the founding members of Friends of Somerset Regional Animal Shelter (FOSRAS). FOSRAS is a volunteer group designed to work with and support the Somerset Regional Animal Shelter. Members help organize on-site and off-site adoption and fundraising events. Members also assist with other learning opportunities for the public. The group most recently exhibited at the Somerville Street Fair on June 1, 2014.

Interested persons are invited to attend the new volunteer orientation that is held on the first Saturday of every month at 11 a.m. at the shelter. After signing up as a volunteer, you will receive a booklet regarding volunteer policies.

The Somerset Regional Animal Shelter is located at 100 Commons Way, Bridgewater, NJ 08807. Telephone: 908-725-0308

E-mail somersetregional@aol.com for more information or to sign up for a volunteer orientation.

The shelter was in danger of closing recently when Bridgewater Township Council was considering outsourcing animal control services. Zeitlan was happy to report that after FORAS started a petition drive to convince the Bridgewater Township Council to keep the shelter open and gaining overwhelming support from the community, the shelter is now safe.
