September 11th and Veterans Day are two days in the year where we should be especially grateful to our military, which is why it’s the perfect time for The Home Depot Foundation’s two-month Celebration of Service initiative.
One of the 200 projects in this initiative will be taking place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. tomorrow in the Chicago suburb of Maywood.
The volunteers from The Home Depot and The Mission Continues will work to renovate Veterans Memorial Maywood Park.
The volunteers will clean the walkways, lay brick pavers, paint the gazebo, dig out existing shrubs and more. According to Scott Philp, local Team Depot Captain, the park has not been updated since 1998.
The park was designed to honor the 192nd Tank Battalion and soldiers from the Village of Maywood who died in World War II on the Bataan death march.
Philp said The Home Depot Foundation’s service projects work to improve the habitat for veterans or honor the memory of those lost in battle.
“We’re taking care of them as they took care of us,” Philp said.
