Volunteer to build playground at Fleet Peeples Park

Sign up to help build a playground at Fleet Peeples Park in Winter Park on Saturday, March 2, 2013. This play area will be for the children at the park and not for the dogs who have their own fenced-in play area at Fleet Peeples. The new playground will provide a safe play-space for the families of dog owners who frequent the park and for children in the surrounding neighborhood.

Winter Park has teamed together with KaBOOM! a national non-profit organization dedicated to saving play for America's children. Their stated mission is, "To create great play-spaces through the participation and leadership of communities. Ultimately, we envision a place to play within walking distance of every child in America."

The City of Winter Park with the assistance of Friends of Fleet Peeples Park, a citizen support group, was awarded a grant from the National partner of KaBOOM!, Dr. Pepper Snapple Group, that provided the funding for the materials for the playground through KaBOOM! for being ranked as one of the top fun cities in America.

Fleet Peeples Park spreads across 23 acres on the shore of Lake Baldwin. There is boat ramp for non-motorized boats, picnic facilities, restrooms and a large fenced-in area for off-leash play for dogs. The playground is a much needed addition to the city park.

On Saturday, the City of Winter Park, members of the Friends of Fleet Peeples Park and more than 100 other volunteers will come together to build a new, safe playground at Fleet Peeples Park. The entire construction will be overseen by the experienced leadership of KaBOOM! experts. During the playground build a Family Fun Station will entertain children throughout the day with games and activities. All ages and skill levels are needed to complete this project. Volunteers will be provided with food, drinks and a T-shirt. Construction is set to begin at 8:00 a.m. and continue until 3:30 p.m. or until the playground is completed.
