Volleyball: 5 on the watch list, sand volleyball, Wahine begin practices

Under Armour All-AMerica Watch List

Five Hawaii high school girls volleyball players were named to the Under Armour All-america Watch List. The players are Kalei Vaivai from Molokai, Chelsey Keoho and Misty Ma'a from Kamehameha, CJ Asuncion from Hawaii Baptist Academy, and Tai Manu-Olevao from Punahou.

Over 600 players are named to the list as they are broken down by states. In November, 24 players will be selected for the All-American First Team, another 24 for the Second Team.

College Sand Volleyball

The University of Hawaii will field one of the first women's sand volleyball teams inthe country as the NCAA has sanctioned this new emerging sport for women. The first head coach will be Scott Wong who is currently the Associate coach for the Hawaii indoor women's team under Dave Shoji.

Competition will be in the spring starting in March. Some other schools that have comitted to fielding a team will be USC, and Long Beach St.

Rainbow Wahine begin practices

Head Coach Dave Shoji needs a new setter, but still has returning All-American Kanani Danielson as the Rainbow Wahine Volleyball Team began practices Tuesday. Hawaii is predicted to win the WAC in their final year before going to the Big West Conference. A key piece will be the setter position as they must replace Dani Mafua who graduated last year.
