Volkswagen's upcoming SuperBowl ad is Jamaican critics crazy

VW’s recently released its latest super bowl ad on youtube and have subsequently received a storm of fault finding from many critics who thought that the ad is overtly racist towards Jamaican people. In the 1 minute spot, we see a Midwestern white male walking around his office from the elevator to the coffee break room with a carefree attitude popularized in popular culture as stereo-typically Jamaican. Cut to the end of the video where we find the source of his happiness to be a VW Beetle.

Check out the video of the ad below!

Let the facts speak for themselves. In the two days that the video was published, its garnered nearly 500,000 views. Not viral by any stretch but pretty darn good for a video only two days old. In addition, out of the 3000 people that decided to give the ad a thumbs up or down, 93% gave the VW Jamaican ad a thumbs up.

The cost to air a Superbowl commercial costs upwards of $10,000,000 with an estimated 100 million viewers watching it at any one time. I don’t blame VW at all if they decide to pull the plug on the commercial due to it touching some of the wrong nerves of some viewers. Sources in VW already stated that they have, “Backups ready” if they decide to pull the plug on the ad altogether.

I think the top comment of the video speaks for itself from one Keisha Clark,

“I'm Jamaican and I like this ad. It's humorous and lighthearted. Good job Volkswagen!”
