Sixth generation 2010 Volkswagen GTI retains the model's signature look and performance; still tops its class.
VW's GTi was introduced in America for the 1983 model year and invented a new class of car.
The Volkswagen GTI invented the "hot hatch" that's since become a staple of performance fans. Subaru, Mazda, Honda, and Ford's Focus introduced competitors but none have quite measured up to the original. Most automotive press still gives the GTI props as the best of its breed.
The GTI formula? Affordable, fun to drive, plentiful power, capacious interior, handy hatchback, and decent fuel economy, These qualities add up to a car that's thrived for 26 years in the U.S. and even longer in Europe.
Available for the last few years in both two-door and four-door layouts, the GTI offers a rare combination of performance, fun, economy, and practicality. VW has designed in clues to the model's heritage with the 2010 model sporting signature plaid upholstery, red trimmed grill and blacked-out trim.
A new, sixth-generation GTI was introduced for the 2010 model year with a style makeover, A sophisticated new look, upgraded intrerior and newly integrated Mp3 player compatibility make the latest generation VW hot hatch the hottest one yet. Its 200 horsepower turbo-charged four-cylinder engine, six speed manual transmission, and willing suspension are carried over from last year.
The current GTI has won great accolades and awards from the automotive press, including a Car of the Year award from prestigious Automobile Magazine.
Starting at just under $25,000, the GTI really needs few options as it comes with most of the VW Golf's upgrades and options included.
