Voices iPhone app top download

                                     A screenshot from Voices.

Voices, is currently the top paid downloaded app for the iPhone.  It is currently on an introductory sale for $1 on iTunes and is even iPod Touch accessible with the addition of an external microphone.  The app manages to change your voice recordings to sound like other voices and does exactly what it advertises.

Those of us that grew up in the 1990’s remember the Talkboy from Home Alone 2.  Well Voices is just like the Talkboy in that it can record your voice and make it sound like other voices.  There is a robot voice, a chipmunk voice, and other sound effects in the background like a record playing or old time music.  There are also voices that sound similar but not exactly like (probably for copyright reasons) Darth Vader and Heath Ledger’s Joker.

My favorite voice on Voices is the backwards voice as you can now unbiasedly play back your favorite songs for backwards lyrics.  On a side note to all Beatles fans, Revolution #9’s “Number Nine” lyric backward really does sound like “Turn me on dead man.”  There are eighteen voices and effects in total, some good, some lame but all work as expected.

Here is a video demonstrating Voices:

As you can see Voices is simple to use.  The touch screen makes it easy to work and the sounds come back clearly.  The loading times are long but not overly long, and the graphics don’t take away from the experience.

All things considered, Voices is a pretty solid app for the low price tag of $1.  You get basically a upgrade to the voice memo app and is actually easier to use than the standard apple app.  You get enough value for the cost as is but I think if the price goes above $2, the app will be considered overpriced.  I recommend getting the app now while it’s on sale.  If the price goes up it’s probably not worth the money.

Are you serious the app would not be worth $2? Come on?!? Do you have any idea the kind of work that goes into developing an app like this?

Hey C, I said the app is worth no more than $2. I stand by it. It is a pretty well made app but it really doesn't do a ton. I'm just trying to save people money. What would make this app worth a lot more money is if you could use the voice in a phone call as a prank. That would make it worth a lot more.

I agree with the author - I have the app and I wouldn't pay more than a dollar for it. I mean, if you could make the recordings into a ringtone, I might reconsider, but it's really a joke app.
