Vogue Knitting Live was three days of fashion, fiber and education. This event took place this past weekend, January 14 - 16. In Sheep’s Clothing chartered a bus to the show on Sunday. The yarn shop is located at 98 Main St, Torrington, CT. 06790, 860-482-3979. Vogue Knitting Live was generous enough to send Ginger (store owner) a package before the show, that included 25 admission tickets for $7.50 apiece.
The show was not just for knitters, but also spinners, weavers and dyers. There were free demonstrations, free learn to knit classes, non-stop knitwear fashion shows on both floors and classes, classes, classes. Also shopping, shopping and more shopping.
So what where the highlights? Ginger said the show was a vision of luxury, bling, shiny and soft yarns. They yarns were comprised of metallic studded sequins, sparkles, glass beads and crystals on cashmere, silk, Quiviut.... Glittery, skinny short scarves were everywhere, looking like pieces of jewelry. TSC yarns was showing off "Crystal" a laceweight yarn studded with shimmering sequins.
The scarves were made from one ball of expensives yarns. Sticker shock was the consensus of the group. Though the feeling was a worthwhile splurge if the result was a glamourous scarf or shawl. Packaging can draw you in and Artyarns "Every which way Shawl" kit comes in a decorative tin box containing 2 mini skeins of Beaded Silk Light and 1 mini skein of Cashmere 1 ply, and the pattern.
The fashion shows dominated with knit skirts. The skirts were multi-colored, layered, tiered, flared, zig-zagged and rippled. The length of skirts ranged from the knee and below. So this is a heads up for what we will be seeing on our needles this spring.
The show was a success, if you just count the number of people streaming in all day. If you didn't have the opportunity to attend this year, there is always next year.
