Reuters reports that Malcolm Lloyd, the 42-year-old founder and CEO of Double Cross Vodka, died early yesterday morning in Miami after the Lamborghini he was riding in collided with an SUV that was stopped at a red light. Lloyd was the passenger in the car, which Miami Beach police say was going more than 100 miles per hour on the MacArthur Causeway, at around 2:50 a.m.; the 53-year-old driver, who is Lloyd's brother-in-law, is expected to recover from his injuries but now faces "pending criminal charges."

As an entrepreneur, Malcolm Lloyd earned the nickname "Dr. Vodka" due to his biomedical engineering background and medical degree. Double Cross Vodka, advertised as "handcrafted in the Tatra Mountains of Slovakia" and finished with a pass through a "diamond-dust filter," is put out by Old Nassau Imports, the company Lloyd co-founded. "All of us at Old Nassau Imports are heartbroken over the loss our friend and leader," the company said in a statement yesterday, in part. "Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time." Via (Grub Street)
