Each month in 2013 we will be featuring a different spirit and cocktails that include that particular ingredient as its cornerstone. The featured spirit for January is the all-to-versatile vodka.

Vodka is a distilled beverage made of water and ethanol with small parts of impurities and flavorings. Vodka is made by distilling fermented substances like grains, potatoes, and at times fruits or sugar.

Today's recipe is all about the brilliant and timeless Bloody Mary, the perfect breakfast wake-me-up. You will find Bloody Mary mix in any liquor store, but the biggest thrill of mixology is creating your own recipes. While I was a bartender

Bloody Mary:

Ingredients:

3 tablespoons dijon mustard

3 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce

2 tablespoons horseradish

2 tablespoons of tobasco sauce

3 oz lemon juice

2 oz lime juice

1 teaspoon of celery seed

2 tablespoons of sea salt

1 teaspoon of fresh ground black pepper

64 oz Tomato Juice ( half gallon or 8 cups or 2 quarts)

Preparation:

Mix everything together except for the tomato juice. Make sure it is mixed VERY WELL!! You should get about 2 cups of rough ingredients. Use 1/2 oz of these rough ingredients for every quart of tomato juice. Do not add alcohol to this mix, some people want vodka others desire tequila or rum. Some want a Virgin Mary. So leave your options open.
