The Visiting Nurses Association of California (VNA California) will offer a free exercise workshop at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at their Palm Desert branch located at 42-600 Cook St., Suite 202 in Palm Desert, California.
The presentation will feature a Certified Senior Strength Training Specialist who will demonstrate 15 primary strength training exercises using a set of 2-pound dumbbell weights. The strength training exercises are designed to strengthen the entire body including the spine, hips and wrists. This is a watch and learn presentation and no participation is required.
Research indicates that seniors who exercise with weights face fewer health problems and have better balance and flexibility which decreases the chance of falls. They also maintain muscle and bone strength and enjoy a more independent and active lifestyle. Participants should check with their personal physician to determine if a strength training program is suitable for them.
In addition to the strength training demonstration, free blood pressure readings and balance screenings will be available to all attendees. Space is limited and advance registration is required. Call toll-free to reserve a spot at 1-855-VNA-CA11 (1-855-862-2211). Men and women of all ages and fitness levels are encouraged to attend.
