The 30th anniversary of MTV’s Video Music Awards was celebrated Sunday night at the Forum in Inglewood, California with stars such as Lucy Hale and Rita Ora dazzling the red carpet. Lucy Hale co-hosted the 2014 VMAs pre-show, and fans now have access to the “Pretty Little Liars” actress’ look with behind-the-scenes beauty secrets from her makeup artist. Rita Ora previewed her glam mani via social media, which coordinates with her new hit single, prior to hitting the VMA red carpet.
Rita Ora gave fans a preview of her VMA nail art on Instagram that emulate her new hit single, "Black Widow," she’s featured on with Iggy Azalea. The 23-year-old singer had her pointed nails painted bright red with glittering spider gems.
Us Weekly has the inside scoop behind Lucy Hale’s MTV makeup from her celebrity makeup artist Kelsey Deenihan. The 25-year-old actress was given two looks for her trek down the Video Music Awards’ red carpet and her stint as co-host for the pre-show. According to Hale’s go-to gal Lucy’s lip color changed for the red carpet and the camera, but her eyes remained the same, which were “emphasized in an elongated almond shape.” Mark’s On the Dot Neutral Eye Color Compact was used in “mixtures” with the darkest shade in the outer corners of Hale’s eyes graduating to lighter on the inner part. A darker color was smudged underneath to create a smoky effect and black eyeliner was added to emphasize the glamour. Mark’s Lash Act Mascara in Blackest Black finished Lucy’s red carpet VMAs makeup.
For her face, Deenihan used La Prairie’s Cellular Crème Platinum Rare Ultimate Rejuvenating Cream along with Armani’s Luminous Silk Foundation to even out her complexion and give Lucy Hale a “flawless base” for her Video Music Awards makeup. “Pressed powder and illuminating shimmer” topped off the look providing a touch of color to Hale’s cheeks. A neutral mauve gloss and vibrant magenta color were used on Lucy’s lips to “complement her Sachin & Babi crop top” for the VMAs.
