Earlier this week, anime and manga publisher VIZ Media announced that it has acquired the “Pokemon Adventures: X & Y” manga series for release in North America through its Perfect Square imprint.

Based on the “Pokemon X” and Pokemon Y” video games, released in October of last year for the Nintendo 3DS, “Pokemon Adventures: X & Y” is written by Hidenori Kusaka with art by Satoshi Yamamoto. The series follows the journey of X, the new champion of the Pokemon Battle Junior Tournament in the Kalos region. Hailed as a child prodigy, the pressure overwhelms X, and he ends up locked in his room, hiding from everyone, including his best friends. But when two legendary Pokemon, Xerneas and Yveltal, attack his hometown, X is forced to come out of hiding.

The first volume of “Pokemon Adventures: X & Y” make its debut digitally and in print in December under Viz Media’s Perfect Square imprint. Future volumes of the series, which is ongoing in Japan, will be published twice yearly. For more information about the expansive “Pokemon” series, you can visit the official site.
