The only thing better than a good night at the House of Blues is a good night at the House of Blues that also benefits children with cancer. Brought to you by Barney Catala, the 4th annual Viva la Salsa at the House of Blues Dallas on Tuesday, January 18 is an event you won’t want to miss. In the spirit of persuasion, I’ve assembled a list of the top five reasons you should go. Check ‘em out and I hope to see you there!
1. Proceeds benefit the Children’s Cancer Fund and Pediatric Cancer Research Fund Cancer is a vile, repugnant and utterly non-discriminatory disease. It doesn’t consider age when seeking out its victims, and the blind inclusion of children amongst its ranks seems unnatural and unjust. According to the Children’s Cancer Fund website, more than 250 children and adolescents are newly diagnosed with a form of cancer at Children’s Medical Center Dallas, with more than 600 receiving treatment at a given time. To learn more about the organizations benefiting from Viva la Salsa or to make a donation, please visit their websites: Children's Cancer Fund and Pediatric Cancer Research Fund.
2. It’s at the House of Blues Where the heart meets the soul, right? Where else can you enjoy a World Famous Gospel Brunch on Sunday afternoon, a Burlesque Festival on Saturday night and kickin’ ribs any night of the week? Event features include a wood mahogany dance floor, credit card machine available (to save you that trip to the ATM), $8 valet parking and free cancer fund support treats for all! Tickets are only $15 for guests 21 and up, and $20 for the young’uns (18-20). The House of Blues is located in the historic White Swan Building on the edge of the West End and Victory Park. Come at 9:00pm and stay until 2:00am.
3. It’s a compendium of the salsa talent in DFW This is a particularly unique event because it features our many salsa leaders under the same roof at the same time. If you want to get a glimpse of the Dallas salsa scene in a nutshell, this is the place to be. There will be showcases throughout the evening featuring the talents of:
- DVA Kids Dance
- David Herrera
- Enclave Dance
- Guajiro Dance
- Kebrina De Jesus
- Mambo Dallas
- Mambo Violento
- My Salsa Dance Studios
- Salsa Dallas
- Rumba Y Fuego
- Urban Salsa Band 214
- DJ Leo Mix
- DJ Arturo Rios
- DJ Ivan G (La Kalle 107.9)
- DJ Jose
- DJ Evolution
4. Say “cheese!” Metro TV, Santos Film Inc. and JL Productions will be filming LIVE! Live out your Andy Warhol-inspired 15 minutes of fame as you dance the night away and mingle with the people of the Dallas salsa community. Sport your spiffiest digs and get ready to smile for the camera.
5. DJ Barney is host and event founder He’s known for driving the ladies loca, but he has room in that big heart of his for everyone… especially the Children’s Cancer Fund and the Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation. He’s been supporting the Children’s Cancer Fund through his Viva la Salsa event for the past three years, and the 4th annual Viva la Salsa is touted to be the biggest and best yet. DJ Barney Catala invites everyone to come out for “the biggest yearly party, where dancing the night away is the mission, celebrating our music is key and benefiting the Children’s Cancer Fund is the goal. Another great night of salsa to remember…”
