1) What are the two most important products to change from your summer to winter routine?
The two most important steps and or products to change in summer versus winter would be moisturizing and exfoliation. Why? Our skin requires less moisture in the summer than in the winter and the exfoliation process in the winter can be more aggressive than in the summer. Exfoliation and hydration is key to illuminate the skin and give you that year round healthy glow.
2) Which type of moisturizer is most effective in the colder months of the year?
You will want to use a rich and hydrating crème. Gels are great for oily skin but in the winter many of us will need a moisture rich crème to combat the cold/dry air that will strip your skin of moisture.
3) Is exfoliating in the fall more important/necessary than in the summer?
Exfoliation is key to minimize the appearance of pores, help clear acne, improve absorption of products, and improve skin texture. We usually encourage 1 - 2 times per week. In winter you can use more aggressive exfoliators (example: ones with acids) and in summer you will want to use something less aggressive without acids. Exfoliation year round is important for the health of your skin.
4) What are your go to products when transitioning from summer to fall skincare?
I use OLEHENRIKSEN products. I love the efficacious ingredients and they are very affordable. In summer I use protect the truth SPF 50+ (this goes on BEFORE your moisturizer) and then sheer transformation as my moisturizer right on top. As my exfoliator once a week I use the walnut complexion scrub. In winter I use protect the truth SPF 50+ (broad spectrum coverage is important year round and again this goes on BEFORE your moisturizer) and truth crème advanced hydration as my moisturizer on top. As my exfoliator once a week I use the power peel. I have outlined below what each of these 5 products do for the skin:
1. protect the truth SPF 50+
This oil free sunscreen protects from UV damage and other environmental aggressors that can cause pre-mature aging. Solar Active Complex™ is designed to help strengthen the skin’s barrier and stimulate it’s natural repair function to help heal pre-existing damage, while increasing the skins resistance to damage.
2. sheer transformation
Helps fade discolorations such as freckles, age spots and sun damage without the use of chemicals. Instantly nourishes and retexturizes the skin, smoothes facial lines and provides intense free radical protection to prevent further damage. Oil free and suitable for all skin types.
3. walnut complexion scrub (summer months) + power peel (winter months)
Removes surface impurities, energizes the skin, minimizes appearance of pores, helps break outs, and will helps with fine lines and wrinkles. Each are going to help with all of these concerns with the power peel being the professional grade system used in our West Hollywood Spa. The power peel is great for winter months when you can be more aggressive with your exfoliation because it's a microdermabrasion and acid peel system. It's a must try!
5) Which skin blunders seem to pop up most in the fall? How do we combat them quickly?
Generally we see acne and hyperpigmentation start to pop up. As our much wanted and sought after tans start to fade the hyperpigmentation starts to become more noticeable. Season changes and stress can bring on the acne. To combat these quickly we recommend the power peel complexion treatment at our spa, it's 50 minutes and $175. This professional grade microdermabrasion treatment will work wonders for hyperpigmentation and acne. If you can't get into the spa then use the power peel system for home because this will actually help combat both acne concerns and hyperpigmentation.
