Vitali Klitschko: Ukraine's freedom fighter stands like inspirational giant

See also

Some fighters suffer from the delusion that they "are bigger than boxing."

Vitali Klitschko, literally and figuratively, is much bigger than the sport/business.

With his inspiring leadership in the volatile and often violent uprising in his native Ukraine, Wladimir's 42 year old brother is standing taller than ever before.

World championship belts and successful title defenses are one thing but seizing the time to overthrow a dictator who the vast majority of Ukrainians do not want to remain in power is another.

For all his ring glory, what's transpiring right now in the capital city of Kiev might be Vitali's ultimate legacy, the lead paragraph to his obituary.

Vitali may be going from comparisons to, let's say, a Mike Tyson or a Larry Holmes to being compared to Abraham Lincoln or Gandhi.

We shall see what we shall see in terms of how this "revolution" turns out but, no matter happens, VK may loom as a Nobel Peace Prize candidate, especially if widespread bloodshed can be avoided.

He's been an awesome power hitter in the ring and now Klitschko is one of the most powerful and influential opposition leaders in his homeland.

Boxing has likely seen the last of Vitali as a world champion but, as a Ukrainian folk hero in the making, he is just getting started.

And you thought Manny Pacquiao was the most popular and persuasive politician to arise from boxing.
Viva Vitali! Viva the People's Uprising!

Vitali should be an inspiration to freedom loving people the world over.
