WBC heavyweight titlist "Dr. Iron Fist" Vitali Klitschko told Die Welt on Friday he didn’t punish Dereck "Del Boy" Chisora enough last week when the Ukrainian earned a unanimous decision victory to successfully retain his belt at Olympiahalle in Munich, Germany.
"My ego, something deep inside, tells me quite clearly that I still need to give this man real punishment," said the elder Klitschko, 40, who has emerged victorious in 12 consecutive bouts and hasn’t been trumped since June 2003 (http://www.espn.co.uk/boxing/sport/story/137357.html?CMP=OTC-RSS). ''I want to knock him out in the ring. This account is still open.''
Klitschko (44-2, 38 KOs), who has never been floored in a prizefight, or involved in one that he wasn’t winning at the end on the scorecards, stated he was disappointed with his performance.
Chisora (15-3, 10 KOs), a former British heavyweight titleholder who was born in Zimbabwe, is an unhinged man and wrong for the sport of boxing.
The 9-1 underdog slapped Vitali in the face at Friday’s weigh-in and spit water in the classy Ukrainian’s face minutes before the opening bell.
“Dr. Iron Fist,” who has now managed to defend his title on ten straight occasions since capturing it from Corrie Sanders in 2004, has been outspoken regarding his disdain for the loony bloke.
Roger "Pit" Perron is a venerable boxing trainer from Brockton (Mass.) who now works with Mike and Rich Cappiello at their gym, Cappiello Brothers Boxing and Training.
“Chisora was in over his head against Klitschko,” said Perron, 75, who worked with International Boxing Hall of Famer Marvelous Marvin Hagler. “He can’t mess with that monster.”
Some onlookers and pundits have reasoned that Chisora gave Klitschko his most difficult scrap since he lost on a technical knockout to Lennox Lewis in 2003.
At a relatively advanced age for a pugilist, and with a wounded left hand, Klitschko still utterly dominated “Del Boy.”
However, the honorable Vitali Klitschko indeed does “need to give this man real punishment."
