On March 10, Aksys Games announced over Facebook that they will be releasing the DS cult-hit 999: 9 Hours, 9 Persons, 9 Doors for iOS devices -- iPad, iPod Touch, and iPhone -- on March 17.

Originally released for Nintendo DS in 2010, the pseudo-survival horror, visual novel game from writer Kotaro Uchikoshi plays similar to a choose-your-own-adventure book. At the whim of a madman, 9 characters fight for survival in a Saw-styled story as they attempt to solve puzzles in order to find the 9th door before time runs out. However, the biggest questions remain: Why are they here and what is their connection to each other?

Fans are still anxiously waiting news of a third installment in the series, even creating campaigns to encourage 999's Japanese developer, Spike Chunsoft with their support. Although this 999 story-centric iOS variation of the original may not hold them over, it's a start.

999: The Visual Novel will release for iOS on March 17, 2014 for $4.99, and will require iOS' 5.1 update.
