Located in the western gateway to downtown Los Angeles (L.A.), Vista Hermosa Natural Park is 10.5 acres of beautiful public park.

This beautiful park is one of the newer in the city of angels. The park is overseen by the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy, which was established in 1980 by the California State Legislature to preserve parkland and improve public recreational facilities throughout Southern California. L.A. Unified School District for the city of L.A. and the Mountains Recreation and Conservation Authority also deserve credit for this lovely park.

Are you wondering why the overkill with the word "beautiful" in this article? It's because in the Spanish language "hermosa" is pronounced with a silent "h" and means beautiful.

Some of the amenities you will find when visiting the park include:

  • walking trails,
  • streams,
  • meadows,
  • picnic grounds,
  • waterfall,
  • restroom, and
  • benches offering million dollar views of downtown L.A., along other views of the city

An amenity you will not find at Vista Hermosa Natural Park is the park bench Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Zooey Deschanel sit on in the movie, 500 Days of Summer. Your examiner was tipped off that Vista Hermosa was where the park bench was located. Nope! In hindsight it was a happy accident, as this park was definitely worth visiting. If you are a fan of parks that is.

The misinformation most likely circulated since the Angels' Flight Park where the 500 Days of Summer movie park bench is located has been closed. That park was purchased by some developers. The city approved the sale with the hope the developers will do something with the land, while simultaneously ridding that area of the homeless that congregated there on a regular basis. As of the time this article was written, no development has been started. The area is fenced off and not accessible to the public.

Also, one of the attractions usually mentioned when visiting downtown L.A., Angels' Flight Railway, has also been shut down and is fenced off.

Vista Hermosa Natural Park is located at 100 North Toluca Street.

The park is open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
