The all-Inclusive, five star resort, RIU Guanacaste in Costa Rica can be yours for a reasonable rate. Included in your price is your room, meals, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages and many entertainment options.
This is a gigantic resort located on the Pacific Coast on the northern portion of the Nicoya Peninsula. It is located approximately 21 miles from the Liberia International airport. Part of the way to the hotel is over an unpaved dirt road. It boasts 701 guestrooms and 24 hour snacks, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.
The breakfast, lunch and dinner buffet offer a wide variety of choices and is fine as buffets go, but should not be confused with fine dining. If you want reservations at the Steak House, Italian or Asian restaurants you need to make reservations by 2:00 p.m. that day. The seating is limited and the restaurants fill up quickly.
The pool was spectacular featuring a variety of levels. There are nooks and crannies where games are played. Water cascades over falls into the pools. There is a swim up bar where you can get a frozen pina colada or daiquiri. There are activities around the pool such as dance classes. Lounges surround the pool with both sunny and shady locations. There are even tiled lounges submerged in the water where you can sun with the cool water lapping over you.
The beach is also spectacular, as can be said with most beaches in Costa Rica. There are many water activities available here as well. Grab a lounge chair on the beach or in the nearby grass.
They offer a children's mini club, playground and pool. Adults can play in the Casino, shop or visit the Spa.
The one potential downfall of a secluded resort like this is you can visit Costa Rica, and never get a feel for the incredible country and people that live here. Talk to the tour desk about arranging a few tours, which are extra, to see some of the rest of the country.
Night time entertainment includes plays and comedy shows. One night the cast performed Mama Mia. I’ll confess I’m a sucker for live theatre and Mama Mia is one of my favorite musicals. I love Community Theater and even high school shows. I’ve enjoyed some pretty mediocre performances, but this show had recorded music with the cast lip-synching and the dance moves were not often in sync. In short, feel free to skip the show and participate in some of the other nighttime activities.

I agree with your statement about traveling to an all inclusive resort and missing the whole country you traveled to. You may as well stay close to home and avoid the traveling hassles if you are going to do that. I never ever do that. When traveling abroad I prefer to stay at local hotels, eat locally and partake in activities that let me see the country and interact with the people. Isn't that the point of going to another country?
Fab slide show!..neat locale..
Cheers..
I'd like to visit Costa Rica and spend some of the time at a fine resort. Mixing sightseeing, exploring and relaxing is my ideal vacation
we just came back, and found that there were some very reasonable trips into different areas of Costa Rica that could be arranged right on the beach. It was a great way to have the best of both worlds: relaxing, and travelling with locals.
