Visit Oakland: East Bay dining promotion in January 2013 (Video)

It's a really short getaway, just over the Bay Bridge or a hop, skip, and a jump onto BART to destination Oakland for lunch or dinner, a jazz show, a spa break, or even for the weekend.

Oakland Restaurant Week 2013

Oakland Restaurant Week is on. Twenty participating restaurants, all easily booked on OpenTable, are offering your choice of $20, $30, or $40 special prix fixe lunch or dinner menus. The dates of the promotion are January 18 through January 27, 2013.

Seafood with a view

Take your pick from a great list. There's a seafood selection including in-season Dungeness crab served up with a view of San Francisco Bay and the Oakland Waterfront at Scott's Seafood Grill & Bar, as they've done since 1976. Scott's is the winner of the "best ambience" award from diners on OpenTable.

Jazz and Japanese

Jazz and Japanese food can only mean Yoshi's. For 40 years, Yoshi's in Oakland has meant dinner and music. Order sashimi, sushi, or grilled seafood. Kick off your shoes and dine at a tatami map in the traditional fashion. There's a cocktail bar at this hot spot and parking is made easy in the adjoining garage.

Look south

At Bocanova in Jack London Square, the accent is on South American food and wine. They celebrate both with a special pairing dinner of five courses on January 23, 2013. Meantime, book a table, join a communal one, or grab a stool at the bar whenever you'd like a show, as the exhibition kitchen is in full swing right around the clock.

Make mine a weekend

At an American brasserie with a water view, Paragon Restaurant & Bar is located in the charming landmark Claremont Hotel Club & Spa in Berkeley. "Upscale gastropub" is the way the menu is described. If vodka is your thing, the list includes your choice of 70 to sample. Never mind driving, just take the elevator home. Why not make a weekend of it?
